Physical Education
CHIJ's PE programme builds students' sports knowledge, fitness, and character through games, theory, and outdoor experiences.

Physically competent individuals who enjoy a lifetime of active and healthy living safely and responsibly
Student Outcomes
We envision our students to be:
Competent and confident participants of physical and outdoor activities.
Students will participate in a range of physical and outdoor activities where they apply their skills and knowledge, for recreation, health, and personal challenge and achievement.
Believers in the importance and benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle
Students understand the individual and environmental factors that contribute to their lifestyle choices and are able to apply the health knowledge and skills in their daily living across different life contexts.
Reflective of these core values:
Respect and care for self, others and the environment, displaying integrity (sportsmanship) and harmony (teamwork) in the participation of physical activities. They should exhibit resilience through adopting a positive outlook when faced with challenges and giving their best effort, while exercising responsibility in the areas of personal health, fitness, hygiene and safety.
Appreciative of the inherent values and joy of movement experiences and exhibiting a positive self-concept, while participating in a wide range of physical activities.
Curriculum
The PE curriculum aims to develop every IJ girl into a physically competent and active individual, through a wide variety of physical activities throughout their 4 or 5 years in the school. As the students’ physical skills and knowledge increase, increasingly complex sports and games are introduced to them.
Our key programmes include:
Sports and Games in PE lessons, through the Games Concept Approach
Outdoor Education
Physical Health and Fitness modules
Cross Country
Sec 2 Adventure Camp and Sec 3 OBS
Sports Exposure Modules
Through these experiences, students develop skills and concepts that they can apply to a wide variety of sports and games, building their confidence to sustain their interest beyond school. Students further expand their knowledge and awareness of diverse outdoor settings, where independent learning opportunities foster their adventurous spirit, perseverance, and personal relationships with the natural world. In health and fitness, students draw meaningful links between their classroom learning and their surroundings to demonstrate behaviours that promote overall well-being.
Signature Programmes
Sec 1, 2 and 3 Inter-Class Competitions
Competition provides a platform for students to apply the skills and values learnt during Physical Education lessons in an authentic context. They serve as an important platform to expose our students to real-life sports settings and in the process, acquire relevant 21st Century Competencies. While the stress and pressure to win may pose a challenge to some students, it will serve as a good opportunity to teach our students to be confident of their own abilities and better handle winning and losing.
Sec 2 Adventure Camp and Sec 3 Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) Programme
Students apply the outdoor competencies learnt during their Outdoor Education lessons in preparation for extended residential camping. Students will embark on a day excursion during the camp to explore outdoor environments beyond the campsite in a safe and guided manner. This capstone experience offers students the chance to consolidate and apply their learning, while making thoughtful and responsible decisions in real-world situations and challenges set within the natural environment.
Cross Country
Students take part in a long distance run beyond the school grounds, immersing themselves in the natural surroundings of their environment. Through this experience, they develop an appreciation for perseverance while motivating their peers to give their utmost effort. The event's House-centred atmosphere further strengthens a sense of school pride and camaraderie among participants.
