Mathematics
Discover how the school nurtures confident mathematical thinkers through problem-solving, STEM activities, competitions, and coding programmes.

Problem solvers for now and the future
Student Outcomes
We envision our Mathematics students to be problem solvers who will
Achieve a level of mastery of Mathematics that will enable them to function effectively in everyday life;
Be equipped sufficiently in Mathematics so that they may pursue Mathematics or Mathematics-related courses of study in the next stage of education; and
Leverage the emerging 21st Century Competency Critical, Adaptive and Inventive Thinking when solving problems.
Curriculum
Mathematics
The key emphases of the Mathematics syllabus are as follows:
Develop in students the critical mathematical processes such as reasoning, communication and modelling as they enhance the learning of Mathematics and support the development of e21CC;
Develop a greater awareness of the nature of Mathematics and the big ideas that are central to the discipline and bring coherence and connections among different topics to develop in students a deeper and more robust understanding of Mathematics and better appreciation of the discipline; and
Place attention on developing students’ metacognition by promoting self-directed learning and reflection.
Additional Mathematics
The key emphases of the Additional Mathematics syllabus are as follows:
To enable students who have an aptitude and interest in Mathematics to:
Acquire mathematical concepts and skills for higher studies in Mathematics and to support learning in the other subjects, with emphasis on, but not limited to, the sciences;
Develop thinking, reasoning, communication, application and metacognitive skills through a mathematical approach to problem solving;
Connect ideas within Mathematics and between Mathematics and the sciences through applications of Mathematics; and
Appreciate the abstract nature and power of Mathematics in the world around us.
Signature Programmes
The IJ Mathematics and Additional Mathematics curricula aim to develop in students critical mathematical processes such as reasoning, communicating and modelling, and support the development of the 21st Century Competencies. Through greater awareness of the big ideas critical to the discipline, students build stronger coherence and connections among topics and develop a more robust understanding of Mathematics and a better appreciation of Mathematics in real-world contexts. STEM thinking and metacognition are encouraged through intentional curricula design and purposeful assessment. Key approaches include the inquiry approach and Pólya’s problem-solving approach.
STEM Learning Journey

STEM Learning Journey
Learning becomes authentic through applications beyond the classroom.

STEM Learning Journey
Learning through real-world contexts develops e21CC and interdisciplinary understanding.

STEM Programme
Students cultivate STEM literacy and use their talents to offer solutions to the problems of today and the future.

STEM Programme
Through collaborations with other schools, students gain exposure to diverse perspectives and broaden their understanding of STEM while developing interpersonal and communication skills.
“Mathematics is the language in which God has written the universe.”— — Galileo Galilei (1564-1642, astronomer, physicist, and mathematician)
