Students explore and experiment with art, developing keen observation skills and openness to discovering new artistic possibilities and techniques.

Students express their personal voice through art, think critically and inventively in their creative work, and collaborate effectively with others in artistic processes.
● Reflective and confident artists
Students learn to reflect on and evaluate their own art practice, developing confidence to discuss their work with others while making connections between concept, form, and artistic intention to appreciate the possibilities that art can offer.
Curriculum
Art is a compulsory subject at Lower Secondary levels, designed to develop students’ visual literacy and art appreciation through experiential, inquiry-based learning. Students engage in art making, reflection, journalling, presentations and learning journeys that foster creative expression and deepen their understanding of art. Students are exposed to a range of artistic mediums, from traditional to digital, enabling them to experiment with diverse techniques, creative processes and forms of artistic expression. Students who express keen interest, disposition and ability in Art are encouraged to pursue Art at Upper Secondary levels.
Signature Programmes
The Art Elective Programme (AEP) is a four-year programme at the secondary level and a two-year programme at the junior college level. One of the first AEP schools which started AEP in 1985, we have established a rich programme that offers students opportunities to experience art through the 3Ls@IJ – Learning and acquisition of skills, Living and applying what is learnt in art-making, and Leading through local and international partnership opportunities. The AEP curriculum places an equal emphasis on the practical and theoretical aspects of Art, with the aim to develop their creativity and critical thinking. Students will be exposed to an exciting range of media and art forms such as ceramics, digital art, painting, photography and print-making. The Art Department also established strategic partnerships to create authentic
learning experiences for our students, such as through museum visits, artist talks and our signature Twinning Programme with schools and museums in Japan.
