Diocesan Girls School





Day 1


Observations today:
There are bicycle lanes all over Sha Tin. Many of the locals use bicycles as a mode of transportation in Hong Kong. The buildings are mostly high-rise.

Lessons I learnt:
I learnt to be open-minded. I learnt more about my buddy and the culture of Hong Kong. 

My impressions of Hong Kong:
Hong Kong is a beautiful place with natural scenery such as mountains and rivers.

Observations today:
The shops in Hong Kong is quite similar to the shops in Singapore. The Hong Kong train station is called “MTR”. The MTR ride to Disneyland was interesting as when we are on the Disneyland Resort Line, the train was decorated with the Disney theme. 

School life in Hong Kong: 
School life in Hong Kong is quite similar to Singapore.

Observations today:
There are a lot more stations in the MTR as compared to Singapore. Most people travel by trains and buses here. 

Lessons I learnt:
I learnt to arrange my money properly so that it is easier when I am paying.

The weather in Hong Kong is a lot cooler. The people in Hong Kong are very polite.

My impressions of Hong Kong:
Hong Kong is a beautiful place. The food here is fantastic.

Observations today:
The people in hong kong are warm and friendly. Hong Kong has beautiful scenery.

Lessons I learnt:
The tram is Hong Kong’s oldest form of transportation. 

My impressions of Hong Kong:
The food in Hong Kong is delicious. The tram and bus rides are very relaxing.

Day 2

Observations today:
The classrooms in school are air-conditioned. Students gather at the auditorium every morning for morning assembly.

Lesson I learnt:
I learnt to be more outgoing. I learnt to start conversations with people.

Reflections:
I made a few new friends in school today. They are very nice and outgoing.

Observations today:
Students use ipad to study and to store important information.

Lesson I learnt:
I learnt how to manage my time better.

My classmates in hong kong are very welcoming and friendly.

Students have their recess in the classrooms as there is no canteen in the school. 

Lesson I learnt:
I learnt to be more participative in class. 

Reflections:
I made a few new friends in school. They are very polite and welcoming. They showed me around the school.

Day 3

Observations today:
The school has a monthly award ceremony during the morning assembly to recognize the achievements of their students. Classes are conducted in English and there are subjects like IT which they have to sit for exams. 
No one leaves the auditorium (the venue for morning assembly) until all the teachers have taken their leave first. 

Lessons I learnt today:
I learnt to be more enthusiastic about learning because everyone in class is so keen to learn new things. 
I learnt how to filter information during the IT lesson. 

Write about a friend that you have made in Hong Kong:
Gabrielle sits next to Amanda in class. She is really friendly and enthusiastic about learning.

Observations today:
The DGS girls use iPads to help them with their school work. Each student in DGS has a student card which they have to swipe it at a machine at the school’s front gate when they come to school and when they leave the school. In this way, their attendance is taken automatically and there is no need for the Class Chairperson to take attendance manually. Most students in DGS learn how to play a musical instrument.

Comment on something that you have enjoyed in the past 4 days:
I enjoyed going to Disneyland on Sunday. The weather was cool and there were not too many people at the theme park. It was my first time going there with friends. I managed to complete almost all the rides and I even took some rides more than once. The company of friends was really great.

Day 3

Observations today:

Day 4

Observations today:
The bus fare in Hong Kong is fixed and it can take you anywhere you want to go. The shops around DGS only sells local food. Fast food is not as common as in Singapore. 

The schools in Hong Kong end rather later. Most of the students do not need to stay back for CCA. My buddy is in Maths club and her club meets once a week for 2 hours.

What characterises Hong Kong life?

-non-spicy food

Day 5

Observations today:
There is no canteen in the school and students are allowed to eat anywhere in the school except the library. The students have winter uniforms and it is different for the S1-S3 and S4-S6 students. The students in S1-S3 wear black flat shoes while the students in S4-S6 wears black high heels.
 
Lesson I learnt:
I learnt how to Ice skate better with the help of my buddy. I fell down a few times during ice-skating but I persevered and I managed to improve and skate faster.
