Direct School Admission 2019 (for Sec 1 2020) 
The Direct School Admission (DSA) Exercise aims to give schools greater flexibility and choice in selecting deserving students. This also provides Primary 6 students with the opportunity to exhibit their range of achievements and talents. 
Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the students’ aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the school’s academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent. 

Direct School Admission to CHIJ Secondary (for Sec 1 2020) 
CHIJ Secondary is a vibrant community of students and staff who strive for excellence in drama, literary and oral skills, academic pursuits, language and the arts, as well as sports. The nurturing and caring environment provides students with a variety of life skills through joyous participation in school life, guided by moral values which are rooted in our school’s mission.

As an Autonomous School, CHIJ Secondary admits up to 20% of our secondary one cohort through the Direct School Admission Exercise.

Admission Guide

1.    Apply via https://www.moe.gov.sg/admissions/direct-admissions/dsa-sec

2.    Application will close at 3pm on Tuesday, 4 June 2019 (Singapore Time).

3.    Applications that are sent through post, fax or e-mail will not be entertained.

4.    Applicants will be informed of the trials by email. Short-listed applicants, after the trial, will be required to attend an interview.

5.    Successful DSA-Sec candidates are NOT allowed to participate in the Secondary One Posting Exercise to opt for secondary schools. They will also not be allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results as students are expected to honour their commitment to the posted DSA school for the duration of the programme that they are admitted to.

A. GENERAL 

Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent. 

B. ADMISSION TO CHIJ SECONDARY 

1. What is Direct School Admission (DSA)? 
Direct School Admission (DSA) gives schools the flexibility in selecting students in the niche areas as specified by the individual schools. This also allows Primary 6 students to be recognised on a more diverse range of achievements and talents. 

2. Is there an admission quota for DSA in CHIJ Secondary? 
CHIJ Secondary admits up to 20% of her Secondary 1 students via DSA. 

3. How much flexibility is given to CHIJ Secondary to select students? 
Schools can decide on their own admission criteria. However, primary school students must achieve PSLE results that would enable them to be eligible for admission to the stream/course being offered by the school. 

4. Can I apply to CHIJ Secondary through another CCA not listed in the school's niche areas? 
No. It is important to meet the published criteria. 

5. Must I still sit for PSLE if I have received a Confirmed Offer (CO) for CHIJ Secondary? 
Yes, students must sit for the PSLE, even though they have received a Confirmed Offer (CO) from CHIJ Secondary. 

6. Can a student below Primary 6 apply for DSA? 
No, admission to Secondary 1 is only for Primary 6 students or its equivalent. 

7. What is the closing date for submission of DSA application to CHIJ Secondary? 
The closing time/date for submission is 3pm on Tuesday, 4 June 2019. Late applications will not be considered. 

8. Can I still opt for CHIJ Secondary in the Posting Exercise if I do not make it through the selection rounds? 
Yes, you can still choose CHIJ Secondary in the Centralised Posting Exercise, after you have received your PSLE results. However, this admission will be solely based on your PSLE results and availability of places in the school. 

9. Can I apply for more than one niche areas? 
Yes. CHIJ Secondary allows you to apply to more than one niche areas (assuming that you meet the published criteria), but you will be chosen based on ONE programme only. For instance, if you apply for DSA through Netball and Basketball and you are successful, you will only get a Confirmed Offer based on either Netball or Basketball.

B. CHIJ SELECTION PROCESS 

1. How does CHIJ Secondary select the students? 
Trials will be conducted by the respective CCA Teacher-in-Charge and coaches/instructors. There will also be an interview conducted with school leaders and selected key personnel. 

2. When will I be notified of the trials and interviews? 
Letters of notifications will be sent by email to applicants informing them of the trials and the reporting time and venue. You will be notified from 1 July onwards. 

3. Will I receive a letter if I am not short-listed for the trial and/or interview? 
You will not receive a notification email if you are not short-listed for the trial and/or interview. 

4. When will I know if I have been selected? 
The outcome of applications (successful or unsuccessful) for the entire DSA process will be released by 30 August (Emails will be sent out latest by 30 August). 

C. SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS 

1. Do I still have to take part in the MOE Posting Exercise if I am selected by CHIJ Secondary? 

Students successfully allocated to their DSA-Sec schools will NOT be allowed to participate in the annual Sec 1 Posting Exercise to opt for secondary schools, and are expected to honour the commitment to the allocated DSA Sec school for the entire duration of the programme. 

They will also NOT be allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results. 

However, you will still be issued an Option form, where you will be given the opportunity to indicate your interest in elective programmes that you are eligible for.
